A prefix is a group of letters placed before (in front) the root of a word to give it a different meaning.

Example: un + happy = unhappy

un = not

What is a suffix?

A suffix is a group of letters placed at the end (back) of the root of a word to give it a different meaning.

Example: home + less = homeless

less = without
