Nouns

A noun is a naming word for a person, place, thing or animal.

Example: cat, chair, pencil, mountain

Different types of nouns:

• Common nouns: General names of things we can see, hear, smell, touch and taste. E.g. bees, apples

• Proper nouns: Special names for people, pets, places, days and months. It starts with a capital letter.

E.g. Sarah, Ceres, Friday, Spar

• Abstract nouns: Words that show feelings or emotions. We can not touch or see it. E.g. love

• Collective nouns: Names of groups of people, animals and things. E.g. A swarm of bees

Nouns can be divided into 2 groups:

• Countable nouns

• Uncountable nouns
