What are adjectives?

  • Adjectives are describing words. They tell us more about the noun.

Example: Her red dress is missing. (Red describes the word "dress", which is the noun.)


Things to keep in mind:

  • Adjectives can tell us more about the colour, age, size and temperature of something and what things are made of.

Example: The old man walks slowly.

  • We can use adjectives before or after nouns.

Example: The huge dog. OR The dog is huge.

  • Degrees of comparison compare nouns.

comparative - higher

superlative - highest

  • Irregular adjectives:

bad ; worse ; worst

many ; more ; most

little ; less ; least
